Entry 1
Item 1: Poem [1]
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
Do not stand at my
grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle -showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle -showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

Poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye
Poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye
Rhetorical devices:
Rhyme: weep-sleep; blow-snow; rain-grain;
hush-rush; flight-night; bloom-room; sing- thing; cry-die.
Metonymy: the dead( grave)
Metaphor: “wind, snow, rain, grain, morning
hush, ripening rush, bird, starshine, flowers, room, lovely thing”- they all
represent the life
Message: The die is not the
end. It is the beginning of a new life that maybe are good things in our life.
So we shouldn’t be too sad before death.
Item 2: Story [2]
A Bamboo Tree
A farmer had a cluster of beautiful bamboo trees. One day he stood before
the tallest one and said, "My friend, I need you." "Sir,"
said the bamboo, "Use me in any way you wish, I am ready." Then the
gardener's voice became serious and he said, "In order to use you, I've
got to split you in half." Then the bamboo reacted, "Split me"
Oh, no... I'm the nicest bamboo in this garden. Use me in any way you wish, but
please don't split me in half." "Well," said the gardener,
"if I can't split you, I can't use you." The bamboo went silent. Then
it bowed its head and said, "Okay. If the only way you can use me, is by
splitting me, go ahead." "But that's not all," said the
gardener. "I am going to have to cut off all your branches."
"That will be the end of my beauty," the bamboo said. "But - if
that's the only way I can be of use - cut me down altogether." So the
farmer cut down the bamboo, removed its branches and split it down the middle.
After hollowing out its insides, he brought it to a spring of water. It became
a pipe to bring water to the gardens and make them fertile and fruitful.
Rhetorical devices:
Metaphor: The bamboo( The people who give their life to
help other people); The gardens( who receive the helping)
Message: Everyday right around us people are giving their lives that we might
live. So we
must concern and take care of them( grandparents, parents, teachers,…)

Item 3:
Trả lờiXóaI am not sure, but I think the thing that the painter wants to express through this cartoon is the admiration of Steve Jobs' passion and industriousness. You can see in the cartoon although he is on the heaven, he still wants to work.
Le Hồng Hoa
Trả lờiXóaI want to support the message of the first item that we should accept the truth and think that the dead is still close around us
I think that it is the death not "the die" ^^.
item 3: Steve Job is really workaholic and innovative
I want to add to the message of item 1: not only that the death is not the end, I guess the writer want to express that the person who died actually live "in each lovely thing" that is around his/her lover's world and that every person who passed away did leave a part of their soul in this world.
Trả lờiXóaNguyễn Hoài Anh
Trả lờiXóaItem 1:
The repetition of the phrase "I am...” brings up the feeling of the poem subject's which is absolute freedom and happiness.
The use of words that describe the movements: "blow, falling, showers, ripening, hush, circling, bloom, sing" exerts the liveliness of the world in contrast to the silent grave. I love this poem because of this; the words that has build such a vigorous picture of life. =))
The message in this poem may also ask the readers not to keep staying in grief and sorrow but to look around and see the world. The afterlife intertwines with the real world in every little thing; the pass-aways always exist and support their beloved living ones even though they are not physically there.
Item 2:
I ‘m very impressed by the bamboo’s willingness to give up its beauty in exchange for having the ability to be of use, the chance to serve more than it could as a beautiful tree. The story makes me think of many people, like the teachers who chose to go to mountainous and far-off places to give lessons to poor children, or the police officers that face danger everyday to sustain everybody’s lives peacefully even though it is such a thankless job.
The story indicated that: for the people who are sacrificing pieces of lives to support others, their jobs is completely worthwhile and meaningful; for the people who receive the fruitful results of all these hard works, it’s important to treasure the efforts of others, and may be, do not hesitate to give out ourselves to help others when we have the chance, because that’s the way for us to be more than we could be. ^^
item 3: Nobody can't negate the great contribution of Steve Jobs to the development of technology. He have change the world. he can make a revolution in IT though he died
