Context: these above utterances are some
comments by several members for a job advertising on a forum for Foreign Trade
University students. The salary offered is 3,309,000
VND per month during the trial period.
·
The students who write these
comments over-appreciate themselves because they are proud of coming from the
most famous and qualified university in Vietnam- as many people think. They
have jumped to the conclusion that everyone who has a degree from FTU in their hand
can easily get a high salary like 1,000 $ per month right after their
graduation, and they have the right to take it for granted. They refuse the
salary offered as in their point of view, such amount of money is just suitable
for those whose majors are Agriculture and Forestry, or those who study at less
well-known colleges in countryside.

The conclusion comes up as a
result of the limited knowledge of the
factual experiences and the very high self –conceited ego of
these students.

Tỷ lệ nạo phá thai ở tuổi vị thành niên cao

phá thai ở tuổi vị thành niên (từ 15-19 tuổi) cao nhất Đông Nam Á và đứng thứ

Tại bệnh viện Phụ Sản TƯ, hàng năm có trên 5.000 ca nạo phá thai, trong đó có tới 30% thai phụ dưới 24
tuổi. Còn tại bệnh viện Phụ sản Hà Nội, con số này thấp hơn
chiếm khoảng 18%, nhưng tuổi đời của thai phụ lại trẻ hơn nhiều, trung bình là 20 tuổi.
Tính trung bình
mỗi năm cả nước có khoảng 300.000 ca nạo hút thai ở độ tuổi 15-19, nhiều em
đã nạo hút thai nhiều lần. Nguyên nhân chủ yếu của việc nạo phá thai là do
tình trạng quan hệ tình dục trước hôn nhân, các em quan hệ tình dục khi chưa
có những hiểu biết đầy đủ về chăm sóc sức khỏe sinh sản ngày càng gia tăng.
Đáng chú ý hơn là vị thành niên - thanh niên chiếm 22% số vụ nạo
phá thai và đang trong xu hướng tăng.

These two criteria can overlap or even not
relate to each other. For example, a 30 year-old woman cannot be counted in
30% in the 1st hospital, but she, along with two others at age of
15, can contributed to the number 18%, and certainly she is not a teenage.

Analysis:
Even
though the TVC maybe have no intention of discrimination, it is easy to feel
the racial discrimination there during the clip. The black man tries to be more
helpful and friendly to other people by climbing to a very high pillar to take
the balloon for a small girl, but when he manages to do it, the girl’s mother comes
up and keeps her girl away from the black man with a great anger, and fear, probably.
It turns out that this is not the first time the man has been treated in that
way. At the end of the ad, there is an image of the man solely lies gradually becoming
a toothpaste, which leads to the feeling that the people are like a sort of
thing. Form the view point about racial discrimination, the ad can be interpreted
this way.

-I am not sure but I think the bias is that we don't know 18% of what number - it lead to limited knowledge of the fact.
Your first analysis on the first item is wonderful. It's a clear and very common self-bias that many people nowadays fall to.
Trả lờiXóaIn the 2nd item, I cannot understand fully the bias in the statistic. The uncertainty and lacking of the facts might be very obvious, yet I cannot see who is the one benefits or be criticized by stating this biased number. Maybe it will be a little more clearer if you identify the reason/purpose of making the biased number ^^
The 3rd item is a great example of discrimination, though I agree with you that the TVC did not make the bias knowingly. And more, could you elaborate more on your statement "At the end of the ad, there is an image of the man solely lies gradually becoming a toothpaste, which leads to the feeling that the people are like a sort of thing." It just seems quite unclear to me about the meaning of the final scene =))

Trả lờiXóaI think item 1 should be include " stereotype" that people whoes major are Agriculture and Forestry will have very low salary after graduating. It is not true that everyone graduating from Agriculture and Forestry will earn less money. About item 2, I really don't understand the statistics. :(. About item 3, I agree with you.

Trả lờiXóaIn my opinion, item 1 should be discrimination. The author discriminate between students in Foriegn Trade University and students in Agriculture and Forestry university.
I think your item 1 should be both discrimination and assumption. We can see clearly the discrimination between the students in FTU and students in Agriculture and Forestry university.
