Entry 3_ Le Thi My Le

ITEM 1

-          Bias in selection
-         Analysis:
Looking into the examples given in this piece of news, we can see that they are chosen in a favorable way to support the opinion lương công chức tối thiểu chỉ 3 triệu đồng thì quá thấp. There are subjective, not typical evidences like “lương trung bình ngoài xã hội cũng tầm 6-7 triệu một tháng” or “Gia đình tôi hiện tại 4 người gồm 2 vợ chồng và 2 con nhỏ, sống tằn tiện một tháng cũng hết 14-15 triệu đồng.” Those are assumptions without proofs and don’t match the majority of population in Vietnam.

ITEM 2

There are two cases of investment about which company A is considering. Each case has two options with amounts of profit shown in below graphs. If you were company A, which case will you invest to?

-         Bias in statistics
-         Analysis:
These graphs don’t look very similar but they actually represent the same content. In graph no.1, the total amount of profit seems to be bigger; meanwhile, in graph no.2, the difference between the two options seems to be bigger. That is because the ratio in graph no.2 is two times higher than in graph no.1 and its starting point is 7, not 0. Therefore, it makes more sense to consider the real numbers and ratios rather than the shape of the graphs.

ITEM 3

-         Assumption
-         Analysis:
Whenever talking about superheroes, we tend to relate to an unchanged powerful, motivated, energetic, adventurous image. However, we rarely think of the situation like this, when the super heroes are portrayed as normal tired, lonely and discontent elderly people (although still in their costumes). In fact, it’s rational because they can’t be heroes forever. There’ll be a day when they get old and become “retired superheroes” – named by the author of this picture.
